Class Announcements Can you help the TMS band program?Dear Parents and Friends,
Can you believe that the 3rd nine weeks is almost over? The TMS band program has been so busy! We are looking forward to our next concert on March 22nd at 7:00 pm in the TMS gym. Admission is free, so bring out the whole family! It is going to be a wonderful event!
The TMS and Williams high school band program needs your help! One of our main sources of income to support our band program is the concession stand at Williams High School. The band booster organization staffs the concession stand through out all of the sporting events during the year. The profits made from these events goes directly to helping our band program. Did you know that the band program receives no funding from the Alamance Burlington School System? The booster program helps us pay for...
1. Buses- The band uses buses to visit local elementary schools, away football games, band contests, solo and ensemble contests and so much more.
2. Instrument Repair- Did you know that the middle school band program has more than 45% of its students on school owned instruments? Did you know that we have spent more than $3,000 in repairs this year alone?
3. Music- Did you know that each piece of music that the band plays costs between $50 and $100? The middle school band program performs more than $2,000 worth of music each year.
4. Instruments-Did you know that most of the school owned instruments such as tubas, baritones, tenor saxes and other instruments that are essential for a complete band program are more than 20 years old? The middle school program is desperate for new percussion and low brass instruments. These instruments typically cost between $1,500 and $3,000 a piece.
These are just a few of the things that the TMS/Williams Band Boosters do for our students. They also use "man power" to move this band program from one place to another, making sure that the musical goals set by Mr. Brewer and myself are possible.
You know as a parent or friend of a band student, how powerful the act of making music can be! Music provides the opportunity for our students to explore their creative side, learn leadership skills, teamwork and so many more life skills. I know that you think that music education is important! Here are few ways you can help!
1. Get involved! Come to the band booster meetings , the first Monday of each month!
2. Volunteer!- Please help come and work one of the spring athletic games listed below! Middle School students can help! (middle school students who help at one of the games will receive 100 extra notes!!)
3. Donate- The TMS band program is always looking for basic instruments. Do you know someone who might have a clarinet, flute, trumpet or trombone sitting in a closet or attic? Consider donating that used instrument to the band program. Does you student use a school owned instrument? Consider, renting an instrument next year so that a new band student can become involved in the TMS band program next year. Renting a flute, clarinet or trumpet is only about $25 dollars a month!
Thank you so much for all of your support and help!

Large percussion instruments are supplied by the school, and cost thousands of dollars. Students who become percussionists must be responsible, independent and hardworking and dedicated to the band program. Therefore, students who are interested in becoming percussion students must start on one of the 4 basic instrument choices. (flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone) Students who meet the percussion audition requirements may audition for one of the 3-5 percussion spots in October of their 6th grade year. Remember that concert band percussion does not include drum set. Students who are percussionists will learn keyboard instruments, bass drum, concert snare drum, timpani and lots of auxiliary percussion instruments.
